Today I found out that my coworker is from a town in Illinois called Pekin. This bit of news did not strike me as significant until later when he told me about their high school mascot. I was absolutely blown away to find out that he was a Pekin “Chink.” I kid you not! This school named themselves the “Pekin Chinks.” As if the name wasn’t bad enough, during games they dressed up two students as “the chink” and “the chinkette.” It is not surprising that this town has a large Klan presence. This just goes to show that not all the racist assholes in the US live south of the Mason Dixon.

I graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1960. I was also voted by the student body to be the mascot "Chink". It was a great honor and still is to me today. Another girl in my class was voted "Chinklette." We wore Chinese costumes and greeted cheerleaders from the opposing team in the middle of the basketball floor before each home game. It was a gesture of a welcome and good sportmanship. I'm still upset today that the school buckled under and changed the name to Dragons in 1981. It was the result of pointy headed pablum sucking liberals who run the polictical correctness gestopo in this country. I do detest them so much. I am attending my 45th high school class reunion this weekend in God's little acre called Pekin, IL and I will proudly wear my PEKIN CHINKS shirt. Liberal and their pathetic ilk can go to Hell!!
CHINKS FOREVER
1960 Chink, Bob Brown
this is in response to Bob Brown's post...
Thank goodness reactionist, racist, old geezer like you are at an age where you're all fat and dying. Perhaps once enough of the likes of you have dropped dead, the rest of us can move on and make it a better place.
You Pekin-ers can keep your Matt Hales and your cross burning, the rest of us will gladly keep out.

I agree with Jack that you are a racist, in the sense that you have no feelings for your fellow Americans be those Asian Americans, African American, Latino American or White Americans. I feel the need to defiantly stand up to you for I was born in St. Louis MO and the first of my family to be born in America. Yes I am Chinese. The word Chink is a term that was used to disgrace my people. It is sad that a city like yours has the name Pekin. Do you not realize that the name it self was a way for the city's of America to be worldlier? I hope your racist views die with you.
I am Chinese and Proud of it!
I can't believe that people are still defending the use of Chink as a mascot. Oh, wait I got one, how about the the South Pekin Darkies. Just becouse it was a different time doesn't mean you were right. It definately doesn't make it less offensive. But I doubt the general population of a town as great as Pekin, whose paper, The Pekin Times may have once been owned by the KKK, really cares too much about those "other races." I do like that Bob Brown managed to mention both people with pointy hats and Gestapo. hmmmmm
